Happy Thanksgiving from Wanton

Aunt Lavina and Carolyn are very busy baking Pumpkin and Squash pies. Hot Apple Cider is still the favored drink, but Eggnog is added to the evening refreshment table.

James loves the smells that surround the cooking. He's been invited to help bake the cookies. He's pretty excited (he loves raw cookie dough). He plans on asking Carolyn to go for a long walk with him in the morning. It gets dark so early now, they have to get an early start.

Can't you just feel the breeze as it blows through the leafless trees.

I didn't write 15,000 words, nor 6000, but I did write 700 words yesterday. Maybe today I'll do better. Still in Richmond, Ky. Bidding on ebay for a Palm Treo.

Sitting in Richmond, KY waiting on a ...Oh, I said that yesterday. Same thing, different day. Today is also my son's birthday. Happy Birthday Tom.

The rain caught up with us. I'm sitting behind the wheel of our truck while I'm typing this. People were stopping in to visit, but now they're rushing to stay dry.
Sitting in Richmond, Ky. Waiting for a load. Read the last 2 chaps I wrote on my novel. Been so long, I'd forgotten what I wrote.

Making use of canceled load, finished weed eating and push mowing. I think I'm dying? LOL

Thursday, July 9, 2009

I've set here all day, reading and deleting emails and I still have 100's. LOL I have gotten a lot of reading done.
Reading Lonesome Dove and watching it on TV too. Cool.
On my way to pick up the load and it canceled. Sooo, I'm at home again. Cleaning up my email and thinking of writing.

Why is it??? Once a year I have a laptop failure. I get a new laptop every year because they can't usually fix the one I have. It's a real pain. I do back up, but still everything, including my favorite software, has to be reinstalled. Now, instead of using the small laptop, I'm using the teeny laptop. LOL.
Home. Nice day at church yesterday. Visited with family. Ate fresh veggies. Business and medical marathons start today.

Going to NC tonight and then to WV. Wrote one chapter in my novel today.
Been up babysitting load. Did lots of computer time.
Trying out Ping

The Falls

James could hear the Wanton Falls from his attic room. It was a new sound to him, somewhat relaxing, somewhat disturbing.

But later, when he walked along the river with Carolyn it took on a new meaning. All he has to do is close his eyes and he can see the joy on her face and hear her lilting laughter.

Sometimes the Falls is loud and rumbling, pouring forth in an angry, fast-moving pace. Sometimes it's slower, trickling along. In the coldest part of the winter it even freezes. The small town of Wanton is as unpredictable as the Falls.

Carolyn has lived with the Falls and the Cheat River in her life since the day she was born. In fact there's not a soul who has more of a connection to the river than she does.

If you look closely you'll see two redbirds, the male and the female. The Cardinal is the state bird of West Virginia.

The snow is gentle right now, but the residents, like many people across the United States, made a trip to the store to get milk and bread. The supermarket shelves empty when the weather channel issues a severe snow storm warning. This happens often in the hills of West Virginia.

Carolyn, Lavina and their guests don't have as much to worry about when the electric goes out. The big house is heated by natural gas and there are enough oil lamps and candles to provide light. The snow will provide a temporary refrigerator and there are no TV's (except for the small one in Carolyn's room) to be missed.

Homemade biscuits are almost as good cold as they are hot and the guests love them during any time of the day.
